TEAM UNITY ADMINISTRATION THROUGH LOVE AND COMPASSION HELPS THOUSANDS VIA HURRICANE RELIEF PROGRAMME
Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 22, 2019 (SKNIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, while speaking at the Team Unity “Community Consultation” for Constituency #3 held on March 19 at the St. Johnston Community Centre, said that it is the first time in the history of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis that so many persons have benefited from the aftermath of hurricanes as a result of the Government’s Hurricane Relief Programme.

“Compassionate government, government of love and consideration, a government who is helping the poor and the not so poor. That is what all of us must have, a memory of gratitude and thankfulness for the positive things that have been happening in our lives,” said Prime Minister Harris. He stated that his administration has been receiving countless praises from citizens and residents, who for many years have asked for help and did not receive it.

He also made mention of a woman from St. Paul’s who thanked him personally for assisting her and who told him that she had not received help over several years from the former St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Administration led by Dr. Denzil Douglas.

“The lady said, prime minister, I am praying for you, that the lord will bless me, that his light may shine upon me and that he will prosper the government and watch me in my going out and coming in,” Prime Minister Harris said.

Prime Minister Harris at a recent press conference said that, “I was personally moved by the testimony of Pastor Pinto Williams and the huge improvement our programme brought to him and thousands of others. According to the pastor, he does not have to ‘sleep with pots and pans’ on his bed anymore, ‘thanks to the Harris-led Team Unity Administration’.”

The programme which was initiated back in April 2018 has aided more than 2000 households spanning all constituencies on the island and have employed over 400 local contractors.

Under the Hurricane Repair Programme, the Government is providing the roofing materials and financing the labour costs to those affected by the 2017 hurricanes through the Office of the Prime Minister, with support and guidance from the Ministries of Social Development and Sustainable Development.
