PM Harris thanks East Basseterre for giving the country the ‘gift’ that is the Hon Ian Patches Liburd

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, April 3, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher One, the Hon Ian Patches Liburd, is the best performing Public Works Minister the country has ever had and Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is profusely thanking the people of East Basseterre for having elected him as their representative.

“Ian Patches Liburd has delivered for the people of East Basseterre,” Prime Minister Harris and Team Unity Leader told a supercharged audience at Team Unity’s Community Consultation held at the New Town Community Centre on Tuesday April 2. “But beyond East Basseterre, he has provided excellent leadership to my government in public infrastructure development and I will say that he has been the best performing minister of Public Works in a lifetime.”

Named the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Posts, Urban Development, and Transport in the Team Unity Government, the Hon Liburd was credited for the development of a number of public infrastructures by the Prime Minister at the fifth town hall-styled Community Consultation held under the theme ‘Team Unity: Making dreams a reality in every community!’ that was attended by a large audience.

Prime Minister Harris credited Minister Liburd for the Basseterre Ferry Terminal, which is one of the most modern anywhere in the Caribbean for inter-island ferry service; the new East Line Bus Terminal that has provided an improved environment for passengers on the east; and improvements done at the St. Christopher Air and Seaports at a time when the Team Unity Government is expanding the country’s cruise facilities by constructing a brand new modern cruise pier at the cost of $100 million.

The Honourable Prime Minister added: “At the same time, we are doing extensive capital works at our airport, and I want to thank Patches Liburd for that work, and you the people of East Basseterre for giving us this gift in Ian Patches Liburd.”

Attending the Team Unity’s Community Consultation at the New Town Community Centre included members of the Cabinet. Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Shawn Richards; Senior Minister and Minister of Labour the Hon Vance Amory; Minister of Agriculture, Health, et al, the Hon Eugene Hamilton; Attorney General the Hon Vincent Byron; and Minister of State for Health the Senator Hon Wendy Phipps.

Earlier on Prime Minister Harris, who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), one of the three parties in the Team Unity Administration along with the People’s Action Movement (PAM), and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), had told the audience that during the last elections he had canvassed St. Christopher One on behalf of the Hon Ian Patches Liburd because he believed in his capacity to deliver.

Prime Minister Harris noted that he believed that the Hon Ian Patches Liburd would have added value to a Team Unity Government to assist the team to deliver on behalf of all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, taking into account his vast experience in the public and private sectors.

“Tonight I have come to say thank you,” said Dr Harris. “Thank you very much to the people of East Basseterre for your vote of confidence in Ian Patches Liburd and I am counting on you, again, whenever the time comes to return and restore Ian Patches Liburd as your representative in East Basseterre.”

Prime Minister Harris added: “So I say thank you for your faithfulness so far; for lending him to Team Unity for such a time like this; for encouraging him in his difficulties over the couple of years that he has been there, and for being the bulwark of his strength – he shall not be moved.”
