Development Bank commemorates 38th anniversary with Customer Appreciation Day
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 24, 2019 (DBSKN) — Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr Warren Thompson, has said that clients of the government-owned financial institution have been its strength, and partners, in its successful pursuit of economic development of the twin-island Federation.
“The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis has successfully positioned itself as one of the most important institutions in the social and financial mobility of the citizens and residents of our Federation,” said Mr Thompson on Wednesday May 22, on the occasion of the bank’s 38th anniversary which was marked with a Customer Appreciation Day observed at the bank’s head office on Church Street in Basseterre, and the branch office at the Ward Building on the Island Main Road, Stoney Grove in Charlestown, Nevis.
“Our customers, some who we inherited from the Development Finance Corporation the forerunner of the Development Bank, have been our strength year in, year out,” observed Mr Thompson. “Many are those who are known to return for further financial assistance from the bank and have even brought their friends and family to benefit from Development Bank’s favourable financial packages in its mandated sectors of medium, small and micro enterprise (MSMEs), housing for lower middle income and lower income, and education loans for the development of the nation’s human resources.”
The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis was established by an Act of Parliament NO. 1 of 1981 and opened its doors to the public on May 22 of the same year. Wednesday May 22 was observed as the institution’s 38th anniversary with a Customer Appreciation Day, where the first customer in the banking halls received an award. All customers who came in the banking halls were surprised when they were treated to snacks, while a few brave ones who agreed to be quizzed won attractive tokens on giving the correct answers.
“As the bank looks forward to another 38 years – and more – of service to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, we remain laser-focused on the needs of our customers by offering packages like the successful Fresh Start Programme, and the evergreen Student Loan Programme among others,” noted Mr Thompson. “In May 1981 we made a monumental commitment to help build a better St. Kitts and Nevis – We have succeeded because of the unwavering support we have received from our customers.”
According to Ms Danienne Brin, Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Human Resource Manager, the first client to come in the Church Street banking hall in Basseterre at 8:00 am was Mr Ebenezer Thomas of Lodge, but who now resides in Cayon, who has a mortgage loan. He had arrived before the official opening time. The second client was Mrs Irene Karren Rouse who noted that with her husband she had been a client of the bank for over 30.
At the Nevis branch office, the first client was Ms Karla Romney. According to Branch Manager, Ms Hyacinth Pemberton, the client who is a recipient of a Government Mortgage for civil servants stepped in the banking hall immediately the bank opened its doors at 8:00 am. Clients were also treated to snacks and during the day some of them received tokens. Encouraging the clients were the two Nevis-based Members of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis Board of Directors, Mr Stephen Jones, and Mr Floyd Harris.
