Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris
During the prime minister’s press conference on July 02, Dr. Harris made mention of a few elements that form part of the good governance initiative including the frequent Sitting of Parliament, radio programmes and town hall meetings to name a few.
“Our weekly “Working for You Programme hosted by Director-General of Government Information Service, Lesroy Williams is now part of the national staple of information and accountability by my Government,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Town Hall forums which afford us [Government Ministers] the opportunity to regularly present to citizens and residents an account of our stewardship over the nation’s affairs, while giving the public the opportunity to question us on matters of importance to them.”
Prime Minister Harris noted that the call-in programmes are designed to allow callers to speak directly with government ministers. He used the occasion to commend the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd and the Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis, for their “own independent radio programmes. Minister Liburd hosts Straight Talk on WinnFm on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m., while Premier Brantley hosts ‘On the Mark’ on Von Radio from 8-10 p.m. on Wednesdays.
“There is no dearth then, no scarcity of information regarding the affairs of the country,” said the prime minister. “Good governance is working in St. Kitts and Nevis and more on good governance will come at our next Sitting of Parliament when a number of pieces of legislation on that subject matter will be debated.”
