One-on-one consultations will be scheduled to give ordinary citizens time with their Prime Minister

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, August 10, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, has said he is there to serve all citizens of the Federation and as a result his office will schedule one-on-one consultations to give ordinary citizens their time with him.

Prime Minister Harris, who is also the Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven (from Bellevue to Ottley’s) made the remarks after two days of one-on-one consultations that were held on Thursday August 8, and Saturday August 10 at the Constituency Office in Tabernacle.

Close to 150 persons had turned out and registered to see the Prime Minister on Thursday August 8, but due to the large number, which the Hon Prime Minister acknowledges was the largest turnout for one-on-one consultations, some were asked to return on Saturday August 10. According to the Prime Minister, one-on-one consultations will now have to be held with greater regularity as more people are interested to meet him.

“I am there to serve,” said Dr Harris. “So to the extent there is a demand for that service, I will reorganise my activities to ensure greater effort is put into that. We will also try and do some of these at the office of the Prime Minister because we had a large turnout from outside the constituency.”

According to the Honourable Prime Minister, persons came from Basseterre, Sandy Point, Old Road, St. Paul’s, Dieppe Bay and other parts of the island. He suggested that there will be need to make a venue that will be much more convenient for persons from outside Constituency Number Seven, and his office would schedule those engagements “to give the ordinary citizens their time with the Prime Minister, because I am there to serve them all.”

Thanking all the persons who turned up, Prime Minister Harris said he would work expeditiously and address some of their concerns promising that they will to get good results. For a number of the concerns which are readily actionable he noted that it will not only be done by the Prime Minister as he is hoping that the parliamentary representatives from all sides of the political divide would make themselves more available within their constituencies to serve their people.

“In my own context, we hold them (one-on-one consultations) regularly not just in Tabernacle, but we do rotation also to help make accessibility better for those at different locations within the constituency,” stated the Prime Minister. “The next one will perhaps be in Molineux and then we will move into Basseterre to give those persons from the Basseterre area a great opportunity for engagement. Representation requires that we who are representatives of the people be available to hear from them, to take their advice, their counsel, and to better inform and advise them about policies, about matters affecting them, about the benefits that are available to them, and generally to provide important education to them.”

Dr Harris said that he was grateful that persons are able to see that they can have the support of the Prime Minister and that they can come and speak to him. He promised that such engagements will continue.

The Prime Minister also thanked his constituents who have always been supportive of those activities noting that their presence and their engagements have inspired him to continue to do the hard work of representing them and giving his very best to them as they have given him so much love unconditionally and they support every opportunity he has to engage them.
