Prime Minister Harris: 2020s can be Federation’s best years
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, January 6, 2020 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis are celebrating their own endeavours to bring change for the benefit of their lives, and Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has advanced that the Federation has every reason to be confident that the 2020s can be its best years.
“Their hopes and aspirations were captured in the vision and policies outlined in our contract with the people, that is, our Team Unity Manifesto for the 2015 General Elections,” commented Prime Minister on Saturday January 4 as he delivered welcome remarks at Prime Minister’s Gala 2020 held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
Prime Minister’s Gala 2020, which was held under the theme ‘Building a brighter, stronger future for all our citizens and residents’, had world-renowned and Influential Educator and Leader, Dr Freeman A. Hrabowski as the special guest speaker.
People across the political divide, Prime Minister Harris recalled, appreciated that only a unified effort could bring a winning solution to the problems which the country faced then. This led to the September 26, 2013 historic meeting at Greenlands where leaders of three political parties accepted that they were together as one to advance the prosperity and good governance agenda for all, and supported Dr Harris to lead the movement.
The country has moved ahead successfully in many areas, and while there is still much work to be done, Prime Minister Harris and his Team Unity Cabinet shall continue to do the people’s work. In its first term the administration has done so much for so many persons, and remains confident that the fair-minded citizens and residents know that the Team Unity Administration on account of its outstanding performance is deserving of another term.
“Our Team Unity leadership went through four phases which the Hon Eugene Hamilton likes often to speak about, and we have worked well in the name of the people,” said Dr Harris. “We come together at the dawn of a new year, and a new decade. Our beloved Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has every reason to be confident that the 2020s can be our best years.”
The Honourable Prime Minister added: “This is our time to continue the forward movement of our country and people. This is not the time for self-doubt or going back to that which we rejected in February 2015. Tonight, we further that journey to build a stronger and safer future for all of us.”
St. Kitts and Nevis under Team Unity, Dr Harris observed, has safer streets and he commended Commissioner of Police Mr Hilroy Brandy, who was present, for his leadership over the last year or so that has seen the most dramatic reduction in violent crimes in the country, with the country ending the year 2019 with a 48 per cent reduction in homicides.
The gala was attended by among others, Governor General His Excellency Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton, GCMG, CVO, QC, JP, Governor General’s Deputy His Excellency Mr Michael Morton, members of Team Unity Cabinet, Federation’s overseas based envoys, resident foreign envoys, business executives and persons from all walks of life.
