The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has extended sincerest congratulations to Dr. the Honourable Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who was on Sunday (August 02) sworn in as the ninth President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
PresidentAli’s People’s Progressive Party/Civic was on Sunday declared the winner of the 2 March General and Regional elections.
“I extend to you, Your Excellency, and to your Government and people of Guyana my heartfelt congratulations and support as you take the helm of leadership at what is a watershed time of unprecedented promise in your country’s history,” Prime Minister Harris wrote.
Theprime minister continued, “You also assume the Presidency at a moment of great challenge and opportunity for CARICOM to champion and execute a region-wide vision and agenda aimed at achieving food security in the Caribbean during and after the coronavirus pandemic. Your Quasi-Cabinet responsibility within the Caribbean Community Agriculture, Agricultural Diversification and Food Security, which includes the Regional Transformational Programme for Agriculture (RTP) and our Banana Industry then makes you well-positioned to meaningfully address and contribute to ameliorating some of the most pressing developmental challenges that our countries face, particularly during the COVID-19 global pandemic.”
PrimeMinister Harris holds the responsibility for Health et at., in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet. As such, Dr. Harris said he welcomes President Ali as part of the team that is working diligently to safeguard the future of the Caribbean and its people.
Onthe bilateral level, Prime Minister Harris stated, “My Cabinet and I very much look forward to strengthening the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis’ relationship with Guyana in ways that can mutually benefit our citizens, some of whom have long ago adopted each other’s country as their own while living, working and studying abroad.”
