Second round unbeaten run by Giants in #7 Domino League ends by default

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 7, 2020 (MMS-SKN) — While Giants Domino Club finished at the bottom of the points table at the end of the first round in the 25th edition of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, they came back swinging in the second round winning the first two games.

However, that short-lived fairy tale run by Giants came to a screeching halt on Sunday September 6 – but not on any domino table. They were scheduled to meet Christchurch Domino Club at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project for the third segment of play in the second round but could not raise enough players to start the game at 4:00 pm, giving Christchurch a walkover win of 13-0.

Former champions Unity Patriots Domino Club are so far the only unbeaten team in the second round. On Sunday they faced Lodge Domino Club, also former champions, in what was seen as the clash of the titans in a game played at Cuban Bar in Lodge Project. Unity Patriots squeezed through a narrow 13-12 win.

Defending champions Parsons Domino Club who had previously lost the first two games in the second round had an easy outing at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux as they overcame Molineux Domino Club, who are yet to win a game in the second round, 13-3.

A game between the two ‘young Turks’ of this year’s edition of Constituency Number Seven Domino League, Phillips Domino Club and Tabernacle Domino Club, also held at Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion experienced some drama when Phillips were leading 8-6, and without electricity in the pavilion, darkness set in.

Players used torches on their phones to provide some form of lighting, but later decided to take the tables outside under a street light. However, before they could start playing under the stars, lights suddenly came back in the pavilion and the tables were brought back. Phillips emerged the winners with a 13-7 victory over Tabernacle.

In other games played on Sunday September 6, at the Tabernacle Police Station Saddlers Domino Club beat Unstoppable Domino Club 13-7; and Mansion Domino Club pummelled a hapless Guinness Domino Club 14-2; while at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project Small Corner Bar Domino Club squeezed a 13-11 win over Sylvers Domino Club.

Points standing at end of play in the third segment of the league’s second round: Phillips, 75 points; Unity Patriots, 74 points; Tabernacle 64; Christchurch, 62 points; Saddlers, 62 points; Lodge, 58 points; Unstoppable, 57 points; Parsons, 56 points; Mansion, 50 points; Small Corner Bar, 38 points; Sylvers, 26 points; Giants, 23 points; Guinness, 13 points; and Molineux, 13 points.

Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, which is the longest running such league in the Federation, is sponsored by Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

Fourth segment of play in the second round of the league will take place on Tuesday September 8 at three venues, with all games starting at 7:00 pm.

Tabernacle Police Station will host Christchurch vs. Mansion, and Tabernacle vs. Parsons games; Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux will be the venue for Small Corner Bar vs. Unstoppable, and Sylvers vs. Phillips games. Three games, Guinness vs. Giants, Unity Patriots vs. Molineux, and Saddlers vs. Lodge, are slated for the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project.
