American drowns at Soufriere beach

An American national reportedly drowned while at a beach in Soufriere with friends last Friday.

The victim has been identified as a 62-year-old male from New Jersey.

Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) personnel attached to Soufriere responded to a possible drowning call at Malgretoute Beach in Soufriere, between 12 and 1.

“Emergency personnel found a male individual lying on his back on the beach,” SLFS Spokesperson, Stacy Joseph said.

According to reports, friends of the victim, who were all doctors, administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

“The patient was transferred to the ambulance where CPR continued and he was provided rapid emergency transportation to the Soufriere Hospital. He was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner,” Joseph said.
