If you have a job, do it well advises Prime Minister Harris

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 29, 2021 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister and National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is advising persons, including members of his Cabinet and executives of the party, that the jobs they hold must be done well.

“Some people believe that their job is just to do a job,” stated Prime Minister Harris. “A job has to be done well – that is the basic standard. So when you do a job well that is what is expected of you if you are on the job.”

The Honourable Prime Minister was supporting sentiments made by Apostle Eugene Springette of The Temple in Dieppe Bay on Sunday March 28 as he delivered the sermon during a morning worship service that was also attended by the newly re-elected National Executive, and general membership of the Peoples Labour Party following the holding of a successful National Convention the previous day.

“And even as we are new out of convention, and you (Apostle Springette) said something so very powerful,” commented Dr Harris. “Just Friday in our indoor private session, I was saying that or some element of that to the party membership. You said your job is to serve well – that is the job you do, to serve well.”

The National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party had led to church the group that included Deputy National Political Leader and Minister of Health et al the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, PLP Senator and Deputy Speaker Dr Bernicia Nisbett, and Trinidad-based Consultant Clinical/Forensic Psychologist, Dr Sharon-Ann Gopaul McNikol who delivered the keynote at the convention which was held on the grounds of Ottley’s playing field.

“You usher in the church, you must do it well,” commented Dr Harris. “You are cashier, you must do it well. You are minister of Government, you must do it well. You are in leadership of the party, you must do it well as the basic threshold. Beyond that we begin to talk about it. So everything seems to have fallen in sync this morning and I want to ask God to continue investing upon you (Apostle Springette) for the powerful message that you brought.”

The National Political Leader thanked those who agreed and were elected to serve the Peoples Labour Party at the private session of 2021 National Convention held on Friday March 26 at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel conference room. The convention was held under the theme ‘Together: Empowering and Uniting People; Rebuilding our Economy’.  Dr Harris added: “I want to thank them for being part of the Peoples Labour Party Executive and we want to thank some of the branches that are here.”

Peoples Labour Party Constituency Number Five Branch was represented by its Chairman Mr Glenville Mills, Deputy Chair Ms Marsha Lewis, Women Representative Ms Janice Lewis, and others drawn from the general membership, and the general membership from PLP Constituency Number Six Branch.

The National Political Leader introduced members of the PLP National Executive by inviting them to the front. They included Chairman Mr Warren Thompson, Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams, Treasurer Mr Rawle Mars, Women Representatives Mrs Sonia Henry and Ms Petrona Thomas, and Youth Arm Representative Mr Jeremiah Locker.

Others were Deputy Secretary Ms Desiree Huggins, Deputy Treasurer Mrs Patrice Ofre, and two party organisers who worked hard to ensure the 2021 National Convention was a success, Mrs Jacqueline Liddie, and Ms Trevlyn Stapleton. Prime Minister Harris led them, and the congregation in rendering the song ‘If that isn’t Love’.

Apostle Eugene Springette, who referred to Dr the Hon Timothy Harris as the Prime Minister of Liamuiga and Oualie as he welcomed the group, based his sermon on Matthew 26:36 when Jesus took three of His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, and where they let Him down by falling asleep.

“Bless our land, bless our people, bless our political leaders, bless Mighty God the administration, bless Mighty God their endeavours, bless them with wisdom, knowledge and understanding that they rise up my God and take our Federation to higher heights,” said Apostle Springette in his prayer.

He added: “Goodness and mercy be established in St. Christopher and Nevis; peace be established in St. Christopher and Nevis; love be established in St. Christopher and Nevis; oneness – the spirit of oneness be established in St. Christopher and Nevis.  We declare that we are people of God, and the Lord is on our side.”

After the end of the sermon, Pastor Matthias Wattley offered prayers for Prime Minister Harris, his Cabinet and members of the Peoples Labour Party National Executive.

“We pray Father they will do to the best of their ability what they are asked to do, and to do a good job,” said Pastor Wattley in his prayer. “Once they have done their best, one can request no more. Therefore may You be their pivotal point, may they long for You for strength, for guidance, for directives, and for their sustenance. This is the duty of the church to bless those God has put in position.”
