Resurrection Mary at the Empty Tomb
Comments
“I believe two things may have happened…one to facilitate the other but resulted in the confusion the Christianity continues to experience to this day. Christ did rose on the first day of the week, the day on which the Romans worshiped the sun – Sunday. I believe the Romans did not want to do away with this and so they used the ressurection of the Son of God (on the Sunday) to make that day, the day of worship for their new religion.
The conflict with the three days in the tomb came about because of this passage from the New Testament: “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.” ~ John 19:31 KJV. The critical word here is Sabbath; and it led them to focus on the Saturday, hence the belief that the crucifixion was on the Friday.
What they ignore was/is, there are two types of sabbaths, the weekly Sabbath (Exo 20: 10 and Exo 31: 14 – 16) and the High Sabbaths (Lev. 23) of which there are seven. These Sabbaths are High Holy Days, on which no work is done and days of holiday convocations or gatherings. In addition, there is another Sabbath the annual Sabbath of Lev 25.
The writer of John 19:31 was sure to indicate that the Sabbath coming up after the crucifixion was a “High Sabbath” and not the seventh day or Sabbath of the Lord’s Rest. It stands to reason then that Christ was crucified in the middle of the week – the Wednesday.”
