PRIME MINISTER HARRIS OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) ON TRAGIC TRAIN ACCIDENT

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 04, 2021 (SKNIS):Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. The Hon. Timothy Harris, has offered condolences to the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Dr. Tsai Ing-wen and the Government and people of Taiwan on the recent tragic train accident.

In a letter to the Taiwanese President, Prime Minister Harris said: “I have learned with profound sadness of the unfortunate train derailment between Hualien and Taitung with great loss of lives and injury to many others. My heart goes out to the families of those who have perished and I offer on my own behalf and behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis my sincere condolences.” 

Prime Minister Harris continued: “At this time, we in our Christian tradition look forward to Eastertide which brings hope after great suffering and bewilderment. For those who I believe are experiencing great pain and unimaginable grief I offer the hope of Easter and assure you of our prayerful support. I am convinced that your strong leadership along with the resilience and resolve of the people will sustain your great nation at this difficult time.”

President Tsai Ing-wen thanked Prime Minister Harris and said “We are working to care for all those affected by this tragedy.”
