In a 12pm bulletin issued on the UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) Facebook page, the La Soufriere Volcano situation appears to be intensifying.

As of noon today (April 8) the steaming or smoking at the La Soufriere Volcano has increased over the last few hours.

In an early morning photo taken by UWI-SRC Geology Professor Richard Robertson from the Belmont Observatory, over on the Seismic Instagram it was explained that the white low-lying cloud cover over the volcano and partly over the sea is due to a sustained period of volcanic gases and steam being emitted from the dome which was carried westwards by the winds.

Residents, especially persons living in communities close to the volcano, are encouraged to be prepared in the event that it becomes necessary to evacuate at short notice. However, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) still has not issued an evacuation order or notice.

NEMO will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as it becomes necessary.
