PM Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris attended and participated in an Emergency Meeting of the National Disaster Mitigation Council at Antioch Baptist Church Among those In attendance were Hon. Vincent Byron Jr., Attorney General, Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett Minister of Health, Senator Hon. Wendy Phipps and high level officials from the public and private sectors on both St.Kitts and Nevis. Meeting also heard from head of CDEMA.
The main objectives of today’s emergency meeting were as follows:
1) To officially update the members of the Disaster Mitigation Council on the situation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
2) To continue the process of assessing available national resources that can be made available – in a coordinated manner – to provide relief to affected residents and citizens in the evacuation zone.
3) To mobilise a volunteer corps that would be required to assist the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines at this time of crisis in their lives. This volunteer corps is to be drawn from the civil service as well as non-state actors/ members of civil society.
