Remarks by Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis at Church Service Commemorating First Anniversary of Second Term in Office. – Sunday June 6th, 2021

(Salutations)

Good morning church, I want this morning to give sincere thanks to almighty God for his favour on me, my government,  and our beloved people and federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Thank you lord for your blessings on us the citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

We have come to worship recognizing that without God we are nothing. You are the God that put up and remove leaders. We thank you God for choosing us to serve for such a time like this.

As we commemorate our first anniversary of the People’s second term mandate to the Team Unity government, we stand in humility and obedience to God’s will. I pray that we can execute God’s will outlined in the book of Micah chapter 6 verse 8 (NIV) – He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

The Lord requires of us to:

  • Act Justly – Fairness for All
  • Love Mercy – Do not just show mercy, love to show mercy. Giving others the same mercy, we would want from God.
  • Walk humbly with God – Remember who God is. If we keep that in mind, we will walk humbled before him.

These are  troublous times the world over. The dangerous and deadly COVID-19 virus hovers over all we do. Even in churches we must observe the COVID-19 protocols and hide ourselves in God’s protective cover.

Notwithstanding the setbacks of COVID-19, and consequential pain, hurt, suffering and deaths around the world, we stand on the promise that God is with us through the ages of time. God is sufficient through all challenges, all difficulties and all our needs.

This brings me to say thank you God, for your grace and mercy. I give thanks for a Cabinet that focuses on the people, especially the poor and vulnerable. I Thank our  churches and their prayer warriors for their intercession on behalf of our people and nation and support. I must again thank the people for their vote of confidence on June 5th, 2020, and for their continuing support.

One year on, we are better placed in our management of COVID-19. We have the vaccine, which is our most powerful tool, you have blessed us with. Our economic sector is opened up. Over 20,000 persons are at work and our social safety net is assisting the poorest of the poor.

We see signs of recovery in agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, and financial services etc. Last Year there was no tourism services at this time as we were in a necessary lockdown to save lives. This year we are hopefully optimistic about the recovery of the tourism sector.

This brings me to Psalms 107 vs 8 and 9 (NIV).

“8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.”

Let us remember to count our blessings. Count them one by one. It will surprise us what the lord has done.

In closing, I congratulate our country on its choice of Unity. I congratulate the people for choosing the stronger and safer future. My plan, with God’s grace is to do my very best as a servant of the people, to serve my people and country to the best of my ability.

May God bless us. Our country needs all our religious bodies and I thank you again for allowing us the pleasure and blessing of worshipping with you today.
