PRIME MINISTER HARRIS EXTENDS BEST WISHES TO INDIA ON ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 15, 2021 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of the Republic of India on the occasion of the country’s 75 anniversary of Independence on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
In a recorded congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi, the St. Kitts and Nevis prime minister commended India on its many successes achieved after attaining Independence.
Prime Minister Harris said, “Congratulations on India’s accomplishments in 74 short years in the areas of democracy, the economy, technology, and sports- in particular Cricket, which has served to bring our peoples together over many decades.”
Dr. Harris also used the opportunity to highlight the leading role India has played in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus, which included its generous donations of much needed vaccines to small developing countries.
“I congratulate you, colleague Prime Minister, for your astute leadership dealing with seemingly insurmountable socio-economic, political, and environmental challenges over the past six years. Your show of solidarity and benevolence during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is commendable. St. Kitts and Nevis remains forever grateful for your generous contribution of 20,000 doses of the COVISHIELD Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine. India’s contribution in the fight against COVID-19 will be recorded in the annals of our history and will long be appreciated by the beneficiaries in our nation,” the prime minister said.
Prime Minister Harris further commented that the theme of “Nation First, Always First” chosen for the commemoration of India’s Independence, resonates well with his Team Unity administration.
“It reflects the value you place on your nation and people and resembles the mantra of my Administration, “People First”. Surely, continuing to place emphasis on the nation and the wellbeing of the Indian populace, the Indian environment, the Indian economy – the whole Indian nation will continue to contribute to the emerging economic power that India is fast becoming. This slogan will undoubtedly evoke a deep sense of belonging, nationalistic pride and patriotism in your people and spur them on to achieve even more in the years to come,” Dr. Harris added.
Prime Minister Harris spent part of his day today participating in an Independence Flag Raising ceremony at S.K.I. Academy hosted by the Indian community in St. Kitts and Nevis.
