20-Year-Old Woman is Shot Dead in Parking Lot of Home Depot St. Thomas; Suspect in Custody

ST. THOMAS — A 20-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the parking lot of Home Depot in St. Thomas Saturday afternoon, the V.I. Police Department has confirmed to the Consortium. 

According to Police Commissioner Nominee Ray Martinez, reports of the incident came in at 4:10 p.m. and police immediately responded to the scene. He said the suspect drove to the parking lot, shot the victim several times and proceeded to flee the scene.

EMS personnel responded to the scene and the victim, reportedly an employee of Home Depot, was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by ambulance for emergency care. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Mr. Martinez said the police department followed leads quickly and detained a suspect at about 6:15 p.m. The commissioner did not provide further details on the suspect as the matter is still developing.

The victim’s identity was being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The homicide was the seventh for the island for 2021 and the territory’s 32nd, according to police records.
