SECOND STIMULUS PAYMENTS TO BE MADE AHEAD OF INDEPENDENCE
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 15, 2021 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Ministry of Finance, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is ensuring that persons qualified for financial support under the Government’s second stimulus package will receive their second round of payments ahead of the Federation’s 38th Anniversary of Independence.
In July of this year, the Government introduced three new initiatives, namely: the Income Support Programme, Fuel Subsidy Programme for passenger bus owners and its Disability Support Programme for households with children living with Disabilities – as part of its commitment to ensuring that citizens and residents can enjoy the best quality of life possible during these difficult times.
Information provided by the Ministry of Finance this week indicates that a second tranche of payment of $1000 will be made to over 2,416 approved applicants for assistance under the Income Support Programme.
The information received from the ministry states that, “A total of 2,560 applications have been approved of which instructions were sent to the Treasury to pay 2,416 applicants.”
Arrangements have also been made to process a second round of payments to 2,419 applicants by the end of day today (Wednesday, September 15).
Under the Fuel Subsidy Programme, a total of 102 applications were approved for assistance to passenger bus operators, and instructions were sent to the Treasury on Tuesday, September 14 for a second round of payments to be made to the 102 successful applicants. The total payout to date under the Fuel Subsidy Programme currently stands at $81,600.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has authorized payments to be made to 142 households with children living with disabilities, as part of the Disability Support Programme. A total of $142,500 have been paid out to date under this initiative.
Prime Minister Harris commented that, “During these most challenging economic times, my Government is committed to ensuring that no one is being left behind.”
