UNESCO OFFERS WARM CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO PEOPLE OF ST. KITTS AND NEVIS ON 38TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 24, 2021 (SKNIS): The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has offered warm congratulations and best wishes to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis on their 38th anniversary of Independence.

In a letter to H.E. Mr. David P. Doyle, Permanent Delegate of St. Kitts and Nevis to UNESCO, the Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations, Fermin Edouard Matoko said:

“On the occasion of the celebration of your country’s National Day on 19 September, l wish to offer my warm congratulations and best wishes to you and the people of Saint-Kitts-and-Nevis. Allow me to take this opportunity to reiterate our appreciation of the active role that your country is playing in ail UNESCO’s fields of competence and to express gratitude for its unwavering support to the Organization, especially on issues such as strengthening disaster resilience of world heritage, cultural heritage to develop tourism; technical and vocational education and training and its important role to play in tackling youth unemployment and violence; ethical use of the Internet; climate change and its impact on SIDS and the SIDS Action Plan.”

He continued: “As the international community faces the challenge posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, you may rest assured that UNESCO is fully committed to supporting Member States through effective multilateral actions in its fields of competence. Notably, our Organization is providing support to its Member States to strengthen the resilience, inclusion, and adaptability of the education sector, to ensure access to scientific research, to promote the role of culture in mitigating the social impact of the crisis, and to fight disinformation by promoting free professional press. l am confident that the solid ties of cooperation that exist between Saint-Kitts-and-Nevis and the Organization will be enhanced even more with your continuous support.”

St. Kitts and Nevis gained independence on September 19, 1983.
