PRIME MINISTER HARRIS VISITS AND GIVES BACK TO INSTITUTIONS WITHIN HIS CONSTITUENCY
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 24, 2021 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris spent the early hours of today, Wednesday, November 24, visiting several institutions and business entities within his constituency.
This activity formed part of the prime minister’s celebrations in recognition of his 28th Anniversary as a Parliamentarian, as well as the Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven (7).
“We have come to give back and we have identified a number of institutions, like the health center, The Grange and other institutions [to] provide some semblance of assistance or some tokens to show our appreciation for the usefulness of these entities in the community. Clearly, the hospital is serving a very good purpose and we want that purpose to continue to be driven with love and care. And so I come on behalf of the constituents and all who use the facility to say thank you to the nurses and to the doctors for their support,” Prime Minister Harris said during his stop at the Mary Charles Hospital.
At the Molineux Health Center, the honourable prime minister thanked the nurses on duty for their dedication to service, particularly as it relates to the success of the Federation’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.
“This year, of course, has been particularly difficult because as you know we have been fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic and without the hard work of you, the nurses, we would not have achieved the record that we have achieved so far which has been cited by PAHO [Pan American Health Organization]. We were the first country in the sub-region to have at least 40 percent of its entire population fully vaccinated. As we stand now, we’re at 79.7 percent of all adults in the Federation [partially] vaccinated,” said Prime Minister Harris.
The Constituency Seven (7) Parliamentary Representative also paid visits to several small business establishments within the community, including Stone Deals, the garage of Peter Pennyfeather, Fraites Bakery, Inner City Tires and The Grange.
As part of the tour, Dr. Harris presented care packages to each entity he visited. These included pampers, sanitation wipes, packs of toilet paper and an assortment of toiletries to the hospital and health center, and masks and hand sanitizers to the small businesses for use by staff and patrons.
Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris is expected to continue his institutional tour on Thursday, November 25. Among the institutions scheduled to be visited are the Tabernacle Daycare Center, the Forensic Lab located on the premises of the Tabernacle Police Station, the Sylvia Garnette Primary Healthcare Facility and the Tabernacle Agricultural Outreach Center.
Dr. Harris has been the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #7 since November 29, 1993.
