MINISTER OF TOURISM CELEBRATES SIX CRUISE SHIPS BERTHING IN THE FEDERATION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 13, 2021 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts Tourism Authority and Ministry of Tourism celebrate the significance of six cruise ships visiting the Federation on Tuesday 11, January 2022, with a statement made by the Minister of Tourism, Transport and Ports, the Honourable Lindsay Grant.

He stated, “Today is a very significant day for the cruise industry and tourism in general in St. Kitts and Nevis because today we welcome six cruise ships.”

“We have been very challenged over the past days and weeks with the advent of the Omicron virus, but I believe because we have constantly engaged our partners whether it is the Ministry of Health, whether it is the COVID-19 Task Force, whether it is our cruise line partners, we engaged them over a number of weeks and so today I think is the result of those efforts we have put in over the last several weeks,” said Minister Grant.

“We are hoping that as we progress to the end of January and February that the threat of the Omicron will be lessened and we will have a more significant cruise season,” he said. “I am delighted today to see the hair braiders, vendors and Port Zante merchants, all those who have the benefit of receiving an economic stimulus from the six ships today.”

“We want to thank our cruise line partners for having the trust and the confidence that they reposed in us to make St. Kitts and Nevis again one of the major cruising destinations in the Caribbean,” said Minister Grant.

He also thanked the taxi drivers for being travel-approved ready as 65 taxi operators were dispatched before midday that day.

Seven ships are slated to berth between Thursday 13th of January and Saturday 15th of January with the Celebrity Equinox and Club Med 2 berthing on Thursday, Anthem of the Seas, Braemar and Seabourn Odyssey on Friday and the Norwegian Epic and Viking Sea on Saturday.
