Today, the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) celebrates International Women’s Day. The PLP recognises the great contributions and achievements of our women as mothers, teachers, nurses, caretakers, farmers, fishers, agroprocessors, public servants and private sector leaders of our Federation.
The national executive, general membership and supporters, join our Political Leader and Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris in congratulating all women who go above and beyond their call of duty. Congratulations are in order to those whose professionalism, moral conduct and dedication exemplifies our national motto, of placing “Country Above Self”.”
In keeping with the International Women’s Day theme for this year, “Gender Equality Today fir a Sustainable Tomorrow”, PLP lauds the efforts of the Dr. Harris ledTEAM UNITY government to empower women by:
- I Facilitating scholarships, financial assistance and study leave to women in order to pursue their academic and professional qualifications;
- Ensuring the health and safety of our women and their children;
- Ensuring that there continues to be a strong social safety net for those
vulnerable during this time of economic uncertainty; - Ensuring that all women in the public sector remain fully and gainfully
employed and that their salaries are paid on time; and - Ensuring equity of women in all spheres of government and in leadership
roles in particular.
Our Prime Minister and PLP’s Political Leader, Dr. Hon. Timothy S. Harris, has extended congratulations to all women on behalf of his Government and the People of St. Kitts and Nevis. He promises to continue to support all women, girls and the most vulnerable in their daily lives and in their very important role of nurturing our nation’s future generation, leading to a Safer and Brighter Future!!
