FORENSIC DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL UNDERWENT FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY AND UNDERWATER DRONES OPERATIONS TRAINING
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 1, 2022 (RSCNPF): Personnel from the Forensic Department underwent specialised training in Forensic Anthropology and Underwater Drones Operations which began July 26, 2022 and ended July 29, 2022.
This compact 4 days-long workshop was held at the Forensic Department’s Lab in Tabernacle and was facilitated by Forensic Anthropology, Human Osteology and Archaeology Expert, Dr. Matthew Brown, and Dr. Cory Look, who is an expert in the field of Forensic Science and Digital Archaeology.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for the Crime Directorate, Andre Mitchell, declared the training open at a brief opening ceremony Tuesday morning. ACP Mitchell said that after examining the content of the courses he is satisfied that the two courses will add value to the strategy of using science and forensic in criminal investigation.
“…after I have examined the content, I am satisfied that the two courses together will add value to the strategy of using science and forensic in criminal investigation… So today, we welcome Dr. Brown and Dr. Cory and we hope at the end of this training that our organization would be in a better position to deal with the aspects of criminology and criminality which are constantly evolving.” ACP Mitchell said.
At the closing ceremony on Friday, he congratulated the participants on completing the courses and advised them to take the training and their new knowledge seriously and apply it with integrity.
Director of the Forensic Department, Latoya Lake-Marshall, also expressed similar sentiments. Mrs. Lake-Marshall also shared her vision for the team and her desire for St. Kitts and Nevis to be the leader in the Caribbean when it comes to scientific investigation and creating positive change. Hence, the reason for selecting the theme, ‘Detection with a Passion’.
