St. Kitts and Nevis concluded their hard-fought 2022 CFU Boys’ U-14 Challenge Series campaign while Haiti get set to defend their title
St. Kitts and Nevis 0-6 Haiti
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (August 18, 2022)—Defending CFU Boys’ U-14 Challenge Series champions Haiti ensured a title defense match when they defeated St. Kitts and Nevis 6-0 in the deciding match on Friday.
The win from the game played at Parque del Este in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, set up an exact repeat of last year’s final where the champs played Puerto Rico. The Boricuas were 1-0 victors over Dominican Republic, a game also played on Friday at Estadio Felix Sanchez.
Haiti were the dominant team throughout the first half of match. They comfortably penetrated the St. Kitts and Nevis backline, making plays and taking shots at goal.
Haiti’s captain Rolph Julien opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play when he effortlessly placed the ball in the back of the net utilizing the empty avenue on the right side.
Angelo Laure, a talented attacking player, made no mistakes to ensure that his name registered on the score sheet. He did so in the 17th minute when a beautifully assisted pass from teammate Lorvenson Dorleus into the box allowed him to shoot the ball straight into the back of the net.
With the frustration of being down before the half, an untimely yet unnecessary tackle from Zarique Bradshaw awarded him the first yellow card of the game. The young Sugar Boyz spent the majority of the match in defensive mode as Haiti applied significant pressure.
Goal number three came in the 29th minute from Laure, who secured his second of the afternoon. Jean Paul joined the goal train in first-half extra time, 35’+1’, when Julien assisted with a cross on the left side and a powerful hit of the ball from Paul blazed straight to the back of the net.
As the second half got on the way, Haiti returned to the pitch with the same composure and momentum and continued in full attacking mode. In the 43rd minute of play Laure secured his hat-trick.
Francisco Daniel also secured his first goal of the tournament in minute 54, bringing the score line to a wide 6-0 margin.
Although Haiti’s keeper had a vacation in the goal, St. Kitts and Nevis played a competitive game of football. Special commendation to Zarique Bradshaw, who despite obtaining a yellow card, played a great game of football in his defensive role.
