ROCK-A-FELLA PASSES
The calypso fraternity in St. Kitts-Nevis is mourning the passing of one of its own.
Cecil Rock, who went by the sobriquet Rock-A-Fella or Rock will be remembered as one of the crowd pleasers of the Proud Sound Calypso Tents over the years. Every one looked forward to his performance as he had an inimitable style of his own. His presentations were dramatic, usually very spontaneous, as he would be making up the lyrics on stage but the crowd loved him for that. Often times his tunes had a touch of wit and would be preceded by a long gospel prelude. Politics seemed to be his favorite theme. Among his most popular calypsos were ‘Stay In You Lane’ and ‘Labour, Labour (A Doan Care Wha Dey Do To Me’. Rock’s attention to detail in his costuming while performing at Calypso Tents was unmatched.
In 2011 he won the King Of The Tents competition.
He last performed in the 2019 – 2020 Sugar Mas Calypso Season.
The St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee extends deepest condolences to his family, friends and fellow calypsonians and hope that they would find strength and comfort at this time.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
