MINISTER OF EDCUATION JOINS THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY IN THE

CELEBRATION OF WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Tuesday, October 04, 2022:​ In his address to honour the celebration of World Teachers’ Day 2022, Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley pointed out the invaluable contribution of teachers to the task of nation building.

“Teachers are the life blood of this great Federation, and today, we join with the international
community to celebrate their sterling contribution to nation building. Now join with me today to
applaud our teachers who go above and beyond on a daily basis to nurture, encourage, guide,
train and infuse our children with values, skills and knowledge. Teachers have allowed us to
grow and transform into successful individuals,” stated the honourable Minister.


Vowing to follow through on his promise to give teachers a “New Deal”, Minister Hanley relayed
“As we look toward the future, it is my intent to ensure that teachers’ are treated with the utmost
respect, honour and have an opportunity for their voices to be heard. I have heard your cry and
promise that I will work assiduously with my team to deliver the “New Deal”.


Using the opportunity to thank stakeholders, the minister expressed gratitude to the St. Kitts
Teachers’ Union for being proponents of teachers’ rights.


“I would like to recognize and applaud the work of one of our partners in education, the St. Kitts
Teachers’ Union, which is an advocate and champion for teachers’ rights. I wish the
organization and its leaders every success and look forward to strengthening our partnership,”
Minister Hanley stated.


World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 05 which enables parents, students and
the wider community to express profound thanks while celebrating the incredible role teachers’
play in the development of the present and future while preserving the past.
