TWO POLITICAL PARTIES IN NEVIS give the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) the proverbial ‘thumbs up’ for its performance during its first 100 days in office.

The Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and the Concerned Citizen Movement (CCM) parties, both based on the Nevis side of the twin-island Federation, signalled their sign of acceptance, approval or encouragement via the sign to the three-month old political party for its management of the 39-year-old island’s affairs.

SKNLP under internal medicine specialist, Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, dethroned the coalition three-party ‘Team Unity’ government of Dr Timothy Harris at the August 5th polls. Today is 100 days since that momentous event.

Janice Hodge, the lone distaff political party leader in the Federation told  www.sknnewssource.com she has given Dr Drew’s administration a great passing grade.

The party, Hodge said, has done very well in its first 100 days under Dr Drew, the ’rookie’ PM.. So far, he has honoured some of his campaign promises, Hodge admitted in today’s exclusive. In addition, he has forged ahead with a strengthened and more beneficial relationship with sister-island, Nevis. This, she stressed, exemplifies his honesty, genuineness and willingness to ensure that both islands in the Federation benefit in a better way.

“They (Dr Drew led administration) have fulfilled some of their campaign promises. They recognised that one of the serious concerns is to improve governance and the lack of transparency. So, they have moved swiftly to put certain legislations in place to curb that. They have addressed domestic violence. I would say so far, they are doing a good job, and I hope that they continue to do so,” the NRP leader said.

Drew is very receptive to dialogue to Nevisians, and according to Hodge, this trait coupled with his genuine willingness to keep engaging them augurs well for the future with him as the Federation’s fourth PM.

“I live in Nevis, and one of the thigs that we are certainly looking forward to is having a very solid relationship between the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) which is the Nevis government and the Federal government (in St Kitts). So far, I have seen the Prime Minister has demonstrated his intent to be inclusive of the people in Nevis meaning both CCM and NRP so I look forward to continued relations,” she explained.

The NIA opposition leader expressed confidence in her party’s chances at the constitutionally-due March 2023 polls. If she prevails, she is fully prepared to engage the PM she emphasised.

“We have a local election coming up and I am looking forward, when I am elected as Premier, that the relationship between St Kitts and Nevis will get better, as I am confident that the relationship will get better.”

Meanwhile, Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and Premier of Nevis, Mr. Mark Brantley also gave Drew the thumbs up on his administration’s 100-days performance.

“So far, the Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has shown himself to be a reliable partner to the Nevis Island Administration, and has thus far has kept his word to the NIA and the people of Nevis. Nevis has long sought a reliable partner in Basseterre and thus far, PM Drew has not disappointed,” Brantley emphasised.
