MINISTER OF TOURISM SAYS THE MINISTRY IS MORE INTERESTED IN INCREASING PER CAPITA SPEND

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 19, 2023 (SKNIS): Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and International Transport, the Honourable Marsha Henderson, in her presentation on the 2023 Budget on Thursday, December 15, stated that the Ministry of Tourism is more interested in increasing the value per capita spend of visitors, which is more important than counting the number of arrivals each year.

“We must again do all we can do to increase the attraction of high-spending visitors per capita because it is our intention to ensure that the money trickles down,” she said.

Minister Henderson added that “The government’s tourism development strategy continues to be based on leveraging the welcoming attitude of our people, the richness of our heritage, and the uniqueness of our natural and historical assets in ways that excite potential visitors.”

“The primary target of our marketing efforts is the more discerning visitor who is best suited to enjoy engaging with our people, culture, and environment,” she said.

On September 21, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority (SKTA) launched the destination’s new brand campaign titled “Venture Deeper.” The new campaign builds on the island’s distinct characteristics while introducing elements of introspective self-discovery and intention that speak to the purpose-driven goals of today’s travelers.
