Joshornnia Edwards of the Verchilds High School in St Kitts and Nevis was named the Caribbean’s Top Female CXC-CCSLC student of 2022
Edwards, who is a Year 1 Student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, received her award earlier this week at a virtual CXC Regional Top Awards Ceremony, hosted by The Turks and Caicos Islands.
Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley in his congratulations to Edwards said: “Standing out in the crowd of elite students is a remarkable accomplishment worth celebrating. This certificate known as the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence award distinguishes Ms Edwards among her peers and is indicative of her potential for success!

The Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®) recognised 15 students for their performance in the May/June 2022 sitting of Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC®) and Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence® (CCSLC®) examinations.
Uotam Heeralall of Anna Regina Secondary School, Guyana has emerged as the winner of the Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®) regional award for the Most Outstanding Performance Overall in Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate® (CSEC®) examinations for 2022.
Uotam achieved Grade I in 25 subjects. These subjects were Agricultural Science (Double Award), Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, English A, English B, Family and Resource Management, Food, Nutrition and Health, Human and Social Biology, Industrial Technology Building, Industrial Technology Electrical, Industrial Technology Mechanical, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Office Administration, Physical Education and Sport, Physics, Principles Of Accounts, Principles Of Business, Religious Education, Social Studies, Spanish and Technical Drawing. Uotam’s performance in Family and Resource Management, Food, Nutrition and Health, Industrial Technology Building, Industrial Technology Electrical, Industrial Technology Mechanical, Information Technology, and Technical Drawing also earned him the award for Most Outstanding Performance in the Technical/Vocational category of subjects.
Saskia Twahir of Queen’s College, Guyana achieved Grade I in 21 subjects and Grade II in one subject. She won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance in Business through her performance in Economics, Information Technology, Office Administration, Principles of Accounts, and Principles of Business. Saskia earned Grade I in these subjects. She also earned the award for Most Outstanding Performance in Humanities through her performance in Caribbean History, English B, French, Geography, Portuguese, Religious Education, Social Studies and Spanish. Saskia also achieved Grade I in Additional Mathematics, Biology, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, English A, Family and Resource Management, Human and Social Biology, Integrated Science and Mathematics and Grade II in Visual Arts.
Sheridan Dyal of Queen’s College completed the list of Most Outstanding Candidates from Guyana, securing the award in Sciences. She achieved Grade I in 18 subjects including Additional Mathematics, Agricultural Science (Double Award), Biology, Chemistry, Human and Social Biology, Integrated Science and Physics as well as Electronic Document Preparation and Management, English A, English B, Family and Resource Management, Geography, Information Technology, Mathematics, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business, Social Studies and Spanish. Sheridan also earned Grade II in Economics.
In the area of Creative and Expressive Arts, Kurtijah Ross of Naparima Girls’ High School in Trinidad and Tobago won the award for the Most Outstanding Performance. Kurtijah achieved Grade I in Physical Education and Sport, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts and Grade II in Music. She also achieved Grade I in English A, English B, French, Geography, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Principles of Business and Spanish.
Students from Trinidad and Tobago also earned Awards in individual subjects. Sophia Hamel-Smith of Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain, and Jayda Mohammed of Rio Claro West Secondary School won the awards for Most Outstanding Performance in Visual Arts 2D and Visual Arts 3D, respectively. Mark Mahadeo earned the award for Most Outstanding Performance in Principles of Accounts, sponsored by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Caribbean.
Students from Jamaica rounded out the list of Top Performers with awards in individual subjects. Jonell Henry of Campion College in Jamaica won the University of Guyana’s Menezes-Rodney Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Caribbean History. Nia-Ashley Harris of the St Andrew High School for Girls won the Professor Wilma Bailey Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Geography. Antonia Binns of St Hilda’s High School won the award for Most Outstanding Short Story and Jemoy Jarrett of Herbert Morrison Technical High School won the new Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (CCREEE)-sponsored award for Most Outstanding Performance in Industrial Technology.
The award for the Most Outstanding Performance by a Male student in the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence® (CCSLC®) examinations was won by Ethan Harrigan of Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, Anguilla.
Joshornnia Edwards of Verchilds High School, St. Kitts and Nevis won the award for the Most Outstanding Female Student. They both achieved grades of Master in all of their subjects: English, Digital Literacy, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Social Studies.
The winner of the 2021/2022 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment™ (CPEA™) Story Writing Competition is Jessica Pyke of Brades Primary School, Montserrat for her entry entitled “The House Fire”.
This year’s top schools are both from Guyana. Anna Regina Secondary School received the award for the CSEC® School of the Year 2022 and Saraswati Vidya Niketan School received the CAPE® School of the Year 2022 award.
