Saint Kitts and Nevis receives bike donation from Taipei City Government

Taipei, Taiwan, 12th June, 2023 (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) – Saint Kitts and Nevis will receive a total of 50 first generation YouBikes thanks to the partnership between the Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Taipei City Government.

A brief handing-over ceremony was held on June 9, 2023, at the Taipei City Hall.

Speaking at the event, the Federation’s resident Ambassador to Taiwan, His Excellency Donya L. Francis, thanked Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an and the Taipei City Government for the donation.

Ambassador Francis explained that the 50 first-generation YouBikes will not only enhance Saint Kitts and Nevis’ efforts to become a sustainable island state but also encourage more physical activity among the citizens and residents.

“It is my hope that the bikes will be used to support the events organized by the Ministry of Health’s SKN Moves and also youth bike rides by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and other non-governmental organizations,” Ambassador Francis said.

The first-generation YouBikes are being operated in other cities and counties around Taiwan while the second-generation YouBikes operate in Taipei.

Both Ambassador Francis and Mayor Chiang highlighted the mutually beneficial friendship and cooperation Saint Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan have enjoyed for almost 40 years.

Just one week ago, the Embassy in Taiwan launched its “Sharing Kindness and Nurturing LOVE – #SKNLOVE” outreach programme in commemoration of our 40th Independence anniversary and 40th year of diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
