YOUNG SUGAR GIRLZ GEARING UP FOR U-14 TOURNAMENT

It’s time again for the Young Sugar Girlz to come back out for training says SKNFA Technical Director Lenny Taylor, as the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-14 girls’ tournament is coming up this summer. “This is the start of the whole revolution of playing with the same philosophy; starting young and coming up from under 14s, under 15s, Under 17s, and Under 20s into full women’s national team.

According to Taylor, the St. Kitts and Nevis U-14 girls’ team is the future of women’s football in St. Kitts and Nevis. “They are presently beginning training and I want to send a big invitation for under 14 girls; now is the time to come out to try to make that (team). And just like the boys, we want to keep you together for the next four years. Introduce you to Academy Football in Saint Kitts and Nevis because what we do for the boy, we have to do for the girls,” Taylor said.  “We’re in the process of hiring a female football director and we’re going to make sure that they get all the amenities (like) the boys (team).”

Meanwhile, Mr. Taylor disclosed that the girls are a little less committed than the boys, and gave a clarion call for the female players to show up for training, especially now that a tournament is coming up. “There’s a system in St. Kitts and Nevis where (the girls) don’t accelerate (training) until they know they’re going to play in a tournament. Now, I’m telling you, your tournament is (here) and it’s time for you to come back to the fields, and let’s prepare and get committed so we can do as well as the boys,” Taylor said. The CFU Girls U-14 Challenge Series Tournament will be held this summer from August 18-27 in Antigua and Barbuda.
