Fisherfolk in Old Road and neighbouring communities can collectively heave a sigh of relief as the Department of Marine Resources re-commissioned the ice machine at the Old Road Fisheries Complex on Wednesday, 5th July 2023.
The Ice Machine had been out of operation since March of 2021.
During the ceremony, Minister Duggins indicated that it was extremely important for him to deliver on his promise to fix the machine and said “less than one year of me being in office, not only has the part been procured but the part is now installed, and the machine is filled with ice”.
