FUTURE-PROOFING ST. KITTS AND NEVIS IS KEY TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, SAYS HONOURABLE DR. CLARKE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 02, 2023 (SKNIS):  Future-proofing St. Kitts and Nevis is a crucial aspect of ensuring that the Federation remains resilient and sustainable, especially in the face of emerging challenges, said the Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment at the August 01 National Town Hall Meeting at the Solid Waste Management Conference Room.

“A critical part of sustainable development is future-proofing our country and that really speaks to how we prepare a St. Kitts and Nevis – not just for us but for the future, for the young people,” said Dr. Clarke. “We cannot have a sustainable island state or a country that is in existence for a future if we don’t look at how we consume now and that is why our very aggressive climate action agenda is so critical.”

“We have been pushing recycling, the ban on single-use plastics, the no plastic Monday’s campaign and every single project in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development to ensure that we have a National Development Plan that will be launched very shortly from his [Senior Minister the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas] ministry to give us a direction and where should we go,” said Dr. Clarke.

Dr. Clarke said that her ministry continues to play its part to help transform St. Kitts and Nevis into a Sustainable Island State.

“From the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment, I am very proud as the minister to report that we have worked on the data, policy and the improving processes to ensure you have access to land, a clean St. Kitts and Nevis and you have a country to call your own for many generations to come,” said the Honourable Dr. Clarke. “It has been a good year and I am happy.”
