PM DR. DREW PLEASED WITH START OF THE HOUSING REVOLUTION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 18, 2023 (SKNIS): The official start of the housing revolution will significantly improve the housing stock and benefit tradesmen across St. Kitts and Nevis.

These points were emphasized by Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew while participating in a groundbreaking ceremony at Taylorโ€™s East Housing Development on Monday (September 18, 2023). Land in that area was selected as the site for the first model home of the housing project by the East Coast Housing Development Ltd., while another will be constructed in Conaree adjacent to the children’s play area. The housing project will see 2,400 climate-smart houses constructed over the next four years.

โ€œPeople need shelter, it is a basic human need but what has been said today is [our intention] to build communities where people can grow and grow well,โ€ Dr. Drew stated.
He also mentioned that owning a home is a generational asset that can help to uplift persons economically.

โ€œThat is very critical so that our people have an opportunity to invest in real estate and to build wealth not just for yourself or this generation, but for generations yet unborn,โ€ said the prime minister. โ€œThe only way that we can elevate our people is to give them opportunities to have meaningful investment and one of the best ways is to give them property and real estate.โ€

Prime Minister Dr. Drew emphasized that economic opportunities will also be created for tradesmen.

โ€œThis will create jobs for our masons, our painters. I remember during the campaign that I said to our masons, painters, carpenters, those who are involved in construction that we will need you,โ€ said Dr. Drew, noting that the time has come.

This is the first of several housing solutions by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) expected to be rolled out over the next four years.
