SIGNED MOU WITH SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY OPENS DOORWAY TO THE FUTURE FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2023 (SKNIS): The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and Southern University in Louisiana, USA was laid on the table in the Federal Parliament on Monday, September 18, 2023.
While laying the document, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Youth et al, turned to students from the C.F. Bryant College and Nevis 6th Form College in the gallery and said, “See it here students, your future.”
The benefits from this arrangement include significantly reduced tuition rates for citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis pursuing Undergraduate or Graduate degree programmes or certification programmes on campus or online. Southern University will also accept credits from the C. F. Bryant College which reduces the time spent studying which ultimately reduces the cost as well.
In a bid to ensure that the opportunity is available to a wide cross-section of persons, the deputy prime minister announced that provisions have been made to accommodate single parents desirous of studying.
“Southern University has a public primary or K to 12 and secondary school,” Dr. Hanley stated. “If a single mother wants to go to university and wants to walk with her nine-year-old child or 15-year-old son, that child will have access of any American child in that school.”
Honourable Hanley thanked Her Excellency Dr. Hadiya Claxton, Special Envoy for Investment, Development, & International Business Relations, for her diligence in identifying and facilitating the negotiations with Southern University.
He added that arrangements are being explored with other institutions to create additional opportunities to transform the education landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis.
