TROPICAL STORM TAMMY WARNING STATEMENT ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

THIS IS FOR ST. KITTS AND NEVIS
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ST. KITTS AND NEVIS. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE SPECIFIED AREA WITHIN 36 HOURS. A HURRICANE WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT AS HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA, IN THIS CASE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 TO 36 HOURS. RESIDENTS SHOULD RUSH ALL DISASTER PREPARATIONS TO COMPLETION AND SEEK SAFE SHELTER.
AT 5:00 AM AST OR 0900 UTC, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM TAMMY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 14.0 NORTH, LONGITUDE 58.3 WEST OR ABOUT 358 MILES SOUTHEAST OF NEVIS.
TAMMY IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH (17 KM/H). A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS ANTICIPATED BY THIS EVENING, FOLLOWED BY A NORTH-NORTHWESTWARD AND NORTHWARD TURN SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF TAMMY WILL MOVE NEAR OR OVER PORTIONS OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS TONIGHT AND ON SATURDAY, AND THEN MOVE NORTH OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS SUNDAY.
DATA FROM THE NOAA RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 60 MPH (95 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. GRADUAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS, TAMMY IS FORECAST TO BE AT OR NEAR HURRICANE INTENSITY WHEN IT MOVES NEAR OR OVER PORTIONS OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS.
TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 140 MILES (205 KM) FROM THE CENTER.
THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1000 MB OR 29.53 INCHES.
BASED UPON THE LATEST OBSERVATION AND ANALYSIS, TAMMY REMAINS ON A PATH TOWARDS THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND WILL BE NEAR OR OVER THE ISLANDS LATE FRIDAY AND INTO SATURDAY WITH WINDS BETWEEN 50 TO 70 MPH. RAINFALL ACCUMULATION IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE PATH OF TAMMY; THEREFORE RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS SHOULD MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND AND RESIDENTS NEAR SLOPES SHOULD GUARD AGAINST MUDSLIDES.
MARINERS SHOULD COMPLETE SAFE ANCHORAGE. SEAS WILL DETERIORATING AND WILL PEAK NEAR 12 FEET OR HIGHER IN THE NEXT 36 HOURS AS THE STORM DRAWS NEAR. MARINERS ARE ADVISED TO SEEK SAFE ANCHORAGE AND REMAIN IN PORT.
AN UPGRADE TO THIS WARNING IS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY AS TROPICAL STORM TAMMY IS FORECAST TO GRADUALLY STRENGTHEN.
