VILLAGE, NEWTOWN, MOLINUEX AMONG YOUTH LEAGUE WINNERS

Youth league football action continued in this past week and on the weekend with matches at the Warner Park, Atiba Harris Sporting Complex and St. Mary’s Park in Cayon. In the Atiba Harris U15 Youth League on Saturday, St. Peters FC were defeated 3-0 by Rams Village Superstars. Two of those goals were scored by star athlete Akanye Samuel Francis, who scored a stunning strike from yards away from the goal, the other being a penalty.

“The defender didn’t step to me so I was like, take a snap shot, surprise the keeper and I bent it around and it went in,” he said in describing the first goal. He also spoke about the importance of this victory to Village. “The mindset coming into his game was to win because in the previous games we played against them in the U17, they were saying we couldn’t beat them in the U15. So, we came out and showed them,” the player said. He noted that even though St. Peters is still ahead on goal difference, they are now tied on points in the U15 points table.

Meanwhile, Jamal Pitt of St. Peters, said he had to rotate his team due to the unavailability of some of his key players. “We had more players but they didn’t show up to the game so it took us out of what we have been training with the guys who usually play. We had to rotate the whole team, play players out of position because the usual guys who started didn’t show up,” Pitt explained. “Unfortunately, we went down 3-0. I think the guys worked hard for this. Still a lot of progress to be done and hopefully we can get it together for the next game,” he added.
