| Join the Walking Tour of Basseterre During Heart Of St. Kitts Week |
Basseterre, St. Kitts (26 February 2024) – The Heart of St. Kitts Foundation is excited to announce the upcoming Walking Tour of Basseterre as part of the activities during the Heart of St. Kitts Week. This educational and engaging tour will take place on March 2nd, starting at 3:30 p.m. from the Tamarind Tree located east of the Springfield Cemetery.
Led by Local Historian Leonard Stapleton, participants will have the opportunity to explore the captivating history and culture of Basseterre. Admission to the Walking Tour is available for a nominal fee of EC$25.00. Persons can register at the Ministry of Tourism located at the Pelican Mall.
The tour aims to not only raise funds for the Heart of St. Kitts Foundation but also to increase awareness of the foundation’s goals and the importance of sustainability in the community. All funds raised during the Walking Tour will go towards supporting the Heart of St. Kitts Foundation’s projects, which include conserving land and marine habitat, improving waste management, preserving local culture and heritage sites, and supporting new community-driven tourism products.
The Heart of St. Kitts Foundation was established in 2016. It is a travel philanthropy program and the fundraising arm of the Sustainable Destination Council. Its primary objective is to preserve and benefit the environment, culture, heritage, and livelihoods of residents. By encouraging better stewardship of the island’s resources, the foundation aims to make St. Kitts a better and more sustainable place to live and experience.
The Walking Tour is part the of Heart of St. Kitts Week. The Heart of St Kitts Week presents an opportunity for residents to deepen their understanding of their history and culture, instill a sense of national pride, and explore potential community tourism business ventures. It also serves as a platform to raise awareness of the Heart of St. Kitts Sustainability Charter and the Sustainable Destination Council which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
In addition to the insightful tour, light refreshments will be provided for all participants during the event.
