Zakers Affinity Causes organizes first Human Library in St. Kitts.

Zakers Affinity Causes, a community based non-profit organization in the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, hosted its first Human Library on Saturday March 30th, at Romney Manor, Old Road. The morning of intervention was aimed at building conversation among youths and young adults while addressing challenges and negative influences through storytelling.

With years of continuous commitment, ZAC through their Project Dignity program has remain a
dedicated youth adversary “The initial goal for Project Dignity SKN, was centered on addressing period poverty among female adolescents but it has evolved into a holistic program that encompasses
emotional resuscitation, social and moral competence development and skill-based training, ” says ZAC founder and director Venetta Zakers. “The concept of our Human Library is an intervention initiative designed to provide youths and young adults with a network of supportive adults and opportunities for connectedness aimed at addressing challenges while revitalizing our islands’
cultural traditions of storytelling and folktale.

Recounters Marcia Jeffers, Micheleina Charles-Hazelle, Carlene Henry-Morton, Leslie ‘Sugar
Bowl’ Morton, Lionel Stevens, and Maurice Widdowson gave a stirring and entertaining account of
their past to the participants in attendance.

Venetta Zakers speaks about the Human Library as a shared passion and commitment to youth advocacy. “All of our recounters have a personal stake in curbing juvenile delinquency, and the positive development of our nation’s youths. As mothers, fathers, grandparents, citizens of this federation, and youth activists, we believe that our voices, stories, or rather stirring reflection of our former years can critically and positively shape the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of our
youths. Who speaks, sows, Who listens, reaps”

ZAC – Human Library is uniquely positioned to help build and grow community involvement by putting together enough life stories, an actual human resource to inspire lives – permit youths to do more than dream – overcome challenges – reach their potential – one day add their story to the unique Kittitian and Nevisian saga.
