OVER 120 STALLS TO BE EXPLORED AT 29TH EDITION OF AGRICULTURE OPEN DAY THIS WEEK

(MOA Basseterre, St. Kitts, 23 April  2024):  

The 29th edition of the Agriculture Open Day promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with more than one-hundred and twenty (120) stalls for patrons to explore on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th, April 2024 at the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park, along the Kim Collins Highway.

This annual event, which celebrates the achievements and innovations of the agricultural sector on St. Kitts, will also showcase a wide range of agro products and services including farm equipment and machinery, livestock, plants, seeds, fertilizers, aquaculture, beekeeping and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with farmers, fisherfolk, other food producers, agronomists, veterinarians, extension agents and other experts in the field, as well as learn about the latest trends and technologies in agriculture.

In addition to the stalls, there will be a variety of activities and events throughout the fair, including educational presentations, cooking and technical demonstrations, watermelon and corn eating competitions and free dog licensing. Visitors can also enjoy delicious local cuisine and drinks from as well as live music and entertainment.

Head of Media and Communication in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Chaïra Flanders said, “We are thrilled to have over 120 stalls at this year’s Agriculture Open Day and if I were to be specific, our hard working Open Day logistics team has reported a total of 128 stalls to be explored which further increases the opportunity for farmers, vendors and other stakeholders to come together to earnestly celebrate the incredible work being done in the agricultural industry while the event generates revenue to support the economy.”

The annual fair is expected to draw thousands of visitors from the twin island federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as well as visitors from across the region, including Saba, St. Eustatius, Montserrat and the U.S Virgin Islands making it one of the largest agricultural events of the year.

This year’s Agriculture Open Day will be held under the theme, “Securing Our Future Through Sustainable Agriculture by 2025 and Beyond”.
