Bird Rock, Basseterre, St. Kitts (Wednesday 24th April 2024) –– St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Division, Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, International Transport, and Urban Development, proudly announces the successful conclusion of the inaugural International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Security Instructors Course in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This milestone event signifies a significant step forward in enhancing the expertise within the Security Department of SCASPA, ensuring robust aviation security measures in the region.
The course, spanning eight days from Monday 15th April 2024 to Wednesday 24th April 2024, was meticulously crafted to empower Aviation Security Personnel with the necessary skills to effectively deliver specialized aviation security courses. Under the guidance of Mr. Royston Griffin, Civil Aviation Officer from the Civil Aviation Division, and Mr. Arthnel Jordon, Security Operations Officer from SCASPA, participants delved into nine (09) comprehensive modules covering crucial aviation security instruction.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀:
Mrs. Icilma Pemberton-Thomas, Mr. Yazani Kelly, Mr. Steeven Jederon, Mr. Anvil Richardson, Ms. Kelsey Bubb, Ms. Shanna France, Ms. Shadisha Davis, Mrs. Sheldene Woods, Ms. Carol Blackman, Mr. Xholan Govia, and Ms. Jhr’vel Swanston enthusiastically participated in this groundbreaking initiative, representing both SCASPA and the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA).
The course curriculum encompassed vital topics such as the role of the aviation security instructor, principles of learning and instruction, course organization and preparation, presentation techniques, performance assessment, and familiarization with ASTP Basic, among others. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, participants honed their teaching abilities and gained invaluable insights into effective instructional methods tailored to aviation security contexts.
A closing ceremony marked the culmination of this enriching journey, graced by esteemed speakers including Mr. Calvin Duggins, Chief Operations Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Loui Hendrickson, Security Manager of SCASPA, Mr. Royston Griffin, and Mr. Arthnel Jordon. Their words of encouragement resonated with the trainees, inspiring them to continue striving for excellence and to proudly represent SCASPA in all endeavors.
Each participant was presented with a certificate recognizing their successful completion of the Aviation Security Instructors Training Course, symbolizing the attainment of the first phase towards becoming certified instructors. The subsequent phase will entail practical application through On-the-Job Training, where officers will deliver training material under supervision. Following a thorough assessment by the Civil Aviation Division, successful officers will earn certification as instructors, further fortifying the aviation security landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis.
