BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis, May 7, 2024, [Press Secretary, PMO] – In a letter to His Excellency Luís Montenegro, Prime Minister of Portugal, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Government and People of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on his recent victory and appointment as Prime Minister of Portugal.
 
“Your ascent to this esteemed position marks a significant milestone in your career, and it is with great anticipation and optimism that we welcome your leadership” Prime Minister Drew stated.
 
Prime Minister Drew also commended His Excellency Montenegro’s administration’s comprehensive plan to combat corruption and enhance transparency within the Portuguese government, highlighting that they correspond with his administration’s good governance agenda.
 
“Such initiatives are not only commendable but also essential for fostering public trust, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring equitable governance. Your commitment to these principles resonates deeply with our shared values, as it is also a major factor in our Administration’s good governance agenda, and we applaud your dedication to upholding them” he noted.
 
In addition to his commendations, Prime Minister Drew emphasized the deep-rooted historical ties between both nations, tracing back to the settlement of Madeiran residents on the island of Saint Kitts from 1847 to 1870.
 
Prime Minister Drew mentioned his administration’s keen interest in further strengthening the diplomatic ties between both countries and exploring avenues of cooperation, stating that the “historical linkages serve as a firm foundation upon which we can build robust partnerships across various domains for the mutual benefit of our people”.
