DENZIL STEVENS AND MICHAEL SAUNDERS CONVICTED OF ROBBERY

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 26, 2024 — Denzil Stevens and Michael Saunders appeared
before High Court Judge His Lordship Justice Iain Morley KC charged with a robbery committed
on December 6, 2019, at the Chinese Supermarket at Camps, Island Main Road.


On Friday, February 23, 2024, Denzil Stevens was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to the charge
of robbery. The trial commenced on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, and on Friday, May 24, 2024, the jury
deliberated and returned with a guilty verdict. Consequently, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, Stevens
was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment, with time spent on remand to be counted.


Michael Saunders initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery. However, on Tuesday,
March 19, 2024, the charge was re-read, and he changed his plea to guilty. On Thursday, July 25,
2024, Saunders was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment, with time spent on remand to be
counted.


The Commissioner of Police commends the diligence of the investigators in ensuring the
successful outcome of this investigation. “The RSCNPF remains steadfast in its mission to uphold
the law and protect our community,” the Commissioner stated.
