LOCAL PORK TO BE HIGHLIGHT OF EAT LOCAL FAIR IN THE SQUARE ON WORLD FOOD DAY IN ST. KITTS
(MOA Basseterre, St. Kitts, 15 October 2024):
Fresh, high-quality and locally produced pork will take center stage at the highly anticipated Eat Local Fair in the Independence Square, Basseterre St. Kitts on Wednesday, in celebration of World Food Day; a flagship event of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., the fair forms part of a week-long observance, filled with activities hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources. The Eat Local Fair also promises to be a mouth-watering experience, with locally sourced pork taking the spotlight as the fair’s main feature.
Smoked pork will bring the heart of Basseterre to life and fresh pork will be available for sale at a reduced cost of EC$4.00 per pound which reflects the Ministry’s commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting food sustainability on the island.
In a live radio interview on Tuesday, Crop Program Leader and Sub-Chair of the Eat Local Fair, Ian Chapman said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our world-class produce and it gives our pig farmers, vendors and food processors the opportunity to earn a living from the sale of their high-quality meat production and locally grown food”
The Ministry of Agriculture invites everyone to attend this exciting World Food Day celebration to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the very best of St. Kitts’ local pork and other homegrown produce.
The World Food Day activities continue on Thursday 17th October with a Plant Distribution ceremony at the St. Christopher Children’s Home as well as the annual Farmers and Fishers Prize giving ceremony and wraps up on Friday 18th October with a Luncheon at the St. Christopher Outreach Center, and a Fish Fry and Seafood competition at the Old Road Fisheries Depot.
