STUDENTS RECEIVE INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Wednesday, November 20, 2024: Grades five and six students of the Tyrrell-Williams Primary School, on Friday November 15, had the opportunity to learn about Graphic Design via US based company, Design Elementary.

Design Elementary in collaboration with Zakers Affinity Causes provided the students with a moment of fun and interactive lessons through graphic design.

Founder and Creative Educator, of Design Elementary Cassandra Hamer, also known as ‘Ms. C’ led the creative and interactive session. Providing an overview of her company and its mandate Ms. Hamer shared, “We are a company that takes Graphics Design, and we merge or integrate traditional learning. So while a child is learning to make a logo, they are also learning, the basics of numbers, shapes, letters and how to write.”

“(For) today’s session we went over the basics,” she said. “Every school we go to, we show (an introductory) video, and we get them engaged and thinking and help them to see that design is everywhere because it is. So, they were utilizing shapes to design, utilizing pencil and paper and cutting, then when they go home, they’ll be able to work on a computer.”

The two-week workshop which aimed at fostering creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration among participants, benefitted over 100 primary school students from St. Kitts. Design Elementary held workshops in St. Kitts with various schools, beginning Tuesday November 05 and ending Saturday November 16.
