CFBC TIMBER STUDENTS SHOWCASE IMPRESSIVE WORK AT EXHIBITION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 26 th November 2024 (CFBC): Second-year students enrolled in the
Timber Programme at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) recently had the opportunity
to showcase their impressive craftsmanship at the Division of Teacher Education Health Fair and
Exhibition.

Held on Thursday, 21 st November 2024, at the college’s main campus, the event highlighted the
students’ dedication and skill in woodworking. Their finished products, which ranged from
intricately designed furniture to practical household items, drew admiration from attendees and
demonstrated the high level of training and creativity fostered within the programme.
Mr. Donald Burke, the students’ instructor, commended the students for their outstanding artistry
and enthusiasm. Among the highlights were a rebate door frame with ledge, brace, and baton, a
regular door frame with a door stop, and a wooden louvered door. The students also presented
three different types of floating shelves, bar stools, wine racks, benches, curtain rod holders with
curtain rods, bedside tables, and waiting trays. Each piece reflected meticulous attention to detail
and a high level of proficiency.

The exhibition not only celebrated the students’ hard work but also underscored the importance
of vocational education in developing practical skills and fostering innovation.
Dequan Pemberton, a student in the Timber Programme, urged young people to explore not only
timber but also other vocational courses. He emphasized the numerous opportunities these
programmes offer, especially for those who prefer hands-on learning over traditional academic
paths like accounting or law.

“It creates a lot of opportunities for the youth. You know nowadays a lot of youth are on the
street, so if you don’t want to go the generic route of accounting or law—if you are more hands-
on, you want to learn a skill, you can come up here where we have multiple courses. We have
timber, automotive, electrical and such. There are a lot of options here for you,” he said.
