CAH PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES HISTORY AND HERITAGE MONTH
Basseterre: St. Kitts, Friday, February 14, 2025: The staff at the Charles A. Halbert Public
Library acknowledged the importance of food to our culture with the launch of their culinary
book display on Thursday, February 13. The ceremony was held at the library under the theme
“Celebrating Cultural Identity through Farm-to-Table Living”.
Addressing the objective of the theme, Mrs. Denise Welsh, Public Library Representative on the
History and Heritage Committee, shared,
“We recognize that our cuisine is a central part of our cultural identity. Our cuisine in St. Kitts
and Nevis really came from all the people [Indigenous people, colonizers, enslaved Africans]
who had lived here and influenced our lives. We also wanted to promote more healthy eating,
and we believe that with farm-to-table living, people would be encouraged to use what is grown
locally and not only the imported goods”.
The book display is being showcased from Thursday, February 13 until Sunday, March 09, 2025.
