ST. KITTS AND NEVIS U-20 WOMEN OFF TO CONCACAF QUALIFIERS IN NICARAGUA
The St. Kitts and Nevis National U-20 Women’s departed the Federation on the weekend to Nicaragua where they will be participating in the Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers. Coach of the team Earl Jones, said he is excited about this team, as it is a mixture of U-20 players and U-17 players, the latter who recently delivered exceptional performances in the Concacaf U-17 qualifiers.
“We had a group, a collective group, both U-17s and U-20s mixed, and when the tournament gets a little closer, we will have the teams separate. The girls, basically, the team is made up of some of the U-17s as well, and then the rest is made up of the older ones. It’s a good collective group, and for us, we believe that it is something good because it helps the girls to gel and understand, playing from U-15 to U-17, now to U-20s, you know, and who knows, maybe moving on to the seniors, you might see some of them in the seniors,” Jones said.
For Coach Jones, progress represents the players laying it all out on the field of play. “Back then, we had a spirit, we already met a culture in terms of a fighting spirit, and I think that broke along the line. Somewhere along the line, and for me, I think that once we go there and fight and show them that we are not easily walked over…we need to see the girls go out there and fight,” the coach noted.
Meanwhile Tatyanna Daley, a player with the team, said she and her teammates are honored and excited to be representing the Federation as this prestigious Concacaf tournament. “We are excited, we are honoured to represent our small town going into another big country as the smallest, one of the smallest, to show them off,” she said with pride. The Young Sugar Girls are in Group D with Jamaica, Nicaragua and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. St. Kitts and Nevis is ranked 19 out of 41 countries in Concacaf in the U-20 women’s category.
