CFBC TO HOST INAUGURAL PANEL DISCUSSION ON 14th MARCH, INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS, THEMED “MATHEMATICS, ART AND CREATIVITY”
Basseterre, St. Kitts, 10th March 2025 (CFBC): The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) is set to host its inaugural International Day of Mathematics (IDM) Panel Discussion on Friday,14th March 2025, coinciding with the global observance.
The event will be held at the CFBC Main Campus, Burdon Street, Basseterre, in the Poinciana Conference Room at 5:30 pm. Students of Mathematics and the Arts are encouraged to join the discussion.
The International Day of Mathematics has been celebrated annually on 14th March since it was proclaimed at UNESCO’s 40th General Conference in November 2019. In many countries, 14th March (3/14) is already celebrated as Pi Day because π, one of the world’s most widely known mathematical constants can be rounded to 3.14.

In its proclamation, UNESCO noted that “Greater global awareness of mathematical sciences are vital to addressing challenges in areas such as artificial intelligence, climate change, energy and sustainable development, and to improving the quality of life in both the developed and the developing worlds.”
IDM highlights the importance of mathematics in various fields such as science, technology, and sustainable development. It also aims to inspire creativity and innovation through mathematical thinking.
This year’s IDM theme “Mathematics, Art and Creativity” highlights the deep connections between mathematical concepts and artistic expression. It celebrates the creativity inherent in both fields and how they can inspire and enhance each other. The theme also encourages exploring the aesthetic aspects of mathematics and recognizing its role in fostering innovation and creativity, while making mathematics more accessible and engaging by showcasing its relevance beyond traditional applications.
The panel will feature experts discussing various topics, such as the societal relevance of mathematics, its relationship with the built and natural environment, its role in performing and visual arts, innovative methods for teaching mathematics, and the intersection of mathematics and technology.
Each panelist brings extensive experience and expertise in mathematics from diverse fields such as education, architecture, computer science, art, and technology.
The distinguished lineup of panelists includes H.E. Dr. Ricardo Neil, CFBC Senior Lecturer in Information Technology, Chairman and Founder of the St. Kitts and Nevis Robotics Association and St. Kitts and Nevis’ Goodwill Ambassador for Science and Technology, Mr. Wycliffe Morton, CFBC Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design Technology, Architect and Vice President, Americas at Commonwealth Association of Architects, Mr. C. Ellsworth Diamond, CFBC Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Integrated Mathematics, Technical Mathematics and Statistics, Ms. Lizca Bass, Art Teacher at Verchilds High School, Artist, Painter, Illustrator, Photographer, and Printmaker, and Mr. Enoete Inanga, CFBC Lecturer in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Computer Science.
