St. Kitts Carnival Season Traffic Rules: Key Updates for a Smooth and Enjoyable Experience

Basseterre, St. Kitts (24 December 2024) — The relevant authorities have provided the following updates and arrangements to ensure a safe, seamless, and enjoyable Carnival experience for all patrons, stakeholders, and attendees at the Carnival Village. Emphasis is also placed on road safety, urging all motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and remain vigilant during this festive season.

Entry and Parking Guidelines

Access Points:

  • Vehicles and pedestrians will enter through the Basseterre High School (BHS) Main Gate.
  • VIPs, VVIPs, and performers will access the venue via the Large East Gate near the Tennis Court.

Parking Areas:

  • Parking for technical staff will be located near the former BHS Auditorium, which will be barricaded with metal barriers.
  • VIP and Executive Members with valid accreditation will park at the Tennis Court area in Warner Park. Additional parking is available at the Football Stadium.

Screening and Entry:

  • All patrons will pass through a security checkpoint at the back of Carnival City. After screening, entry will be through the designated Red Gates.

Exit Guidelines

  • Vehicles in the BHS Parking Area must exit via the East Park Range Gate.
  • Pedestrians will exit through the double small gates on Victoria Road, near the BHS Main Gate.

Traffic Management 

  • Traffic on Victoria Road will flow South to North on show nights.
  • Vehicular access to the top of Victoria Road will be restricted starting from 7:00 PM.
  • Parking is prohibited between the Carnival City Main Gate and the BHS Main Gate.

General Information

  • All shows will commence at 8:00 PM.
  • Private security will manage gates, backstage areas, and dressing rooms.
  • Patrons will undergo security screening before entering Carnival City.
  • No weapons or items that can be used as weapons are allowed.
  • Police officers will conduct regular patrols to ensure public safety and law enforcement.

Temporary Opening of Princess Street 

To ease congestion during the festive season, Princes Street (opposite Government Headquarters) will be temporarily opened to vehicular traffic from Monday, December 16, 2024, to Sunday, January 12, 2025. All motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to exercise caution while navigating this area.

These measures have been implemented to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees during this carnival season.
